Essentials List #1 and #2

The first 2 things on a Woman's essential list starting at the TOP  should be:

#1 Gentlemen's Hat (for Fall/Winter season)

(This would include hats like a Fedora, Panama style, Cowboy, Beret, newsboy, etc.)

Age: All ages can wear any of these styles

Body Type: Whether you are a big woman, medium woman, or small woman depends on how big you want to go with your hat. A Huge hat on a little woman looks silly, just as a little hat on a big woman does. Try and find the right size to look proportionate to your body. Where your ears sit on your head(high or low) will help you also to pick the best style that works for you. A hat that covers ears that poke out(if that's something you don't like) can help make a nicer look.

 Pictures of examples:

The Fashionista might pick a Fedora
Earthy Chic might pick the cowboy hat or suede newsie
The Romantica might pick the blue hat with bow or the red velvet cap
Wild Child might pick the hat with all the embellishments(circle tabs) or the blue castro looking cap that had a turban look to it.

 #2 The Sunhat

(anything with a visor or wide brim to keep sun out of eyes)

Age: All ages can keep it neutral or go bright and bold. For the more mature woman, it's nice to have some fancier details, such a shiny hardware.

Body Type: same as in #1, fit to your ears and your body size scale. Big floppy hats are SO fun.

 Classy Lady                                                                    Wild Child
 Fashionista                                                                 Earthy Chic

Some FUN Coco Quotes:

Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.

"Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity."
“I love luxury. And luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity. Vulgarity is the ugliest word in our language. I stay in the game to fight it.”

First Post of Esstentials Series for Women

Preface:

There are some points I need to highlight before moving forward:

What am I doing?

I'm doing an "Essentials List" Series for Women. I have put together the BEST list I could come up with combining different ideas from many different books and Professionals including, but not limited to, Stacy London, Clinton Kelly, Shari Braendel, Nina Garcia, and Many more...

How am I going to accomplish this?

I'm going to post a new weekly post featuring another set of essentials and highlighting why they are essential, what age to wear them at, and what body type best works with them. I will have pictures and lots of ideas for you. I will post only a couple of items at a time from the complete 50 item list.

I will try and start from the TOP(hats) down to the BOTTOM(shoes) with the essentials list.

Update on ***Giveaway***

I hate to do this, but I'm going to push back the giveaway one more week. It will close on Oct. 27th,2010 at midnight.
The reasoning for this is because I am guest posting over at Shari Braendel's blog on Oct. 25th, and I wanted to allow any readers from that post to come enter the giveaway. So sorry, but stay posted, I'm sure there won't be that many people entering, right now it's really low...so your chances are great!!! :) thanks guys! Have a beautiful day and weekend!

Budget clothing for your Children

Polls showed that we are spending between $30-$100 per season on our children. Check out my " Example Plan for my oldest for Fall/Winter" at the bottom of post.

Here are 5 tips to get your kids looking GREAT for $100 or less.

1. Elevate the clothes in their closet. Do any of them still fit and are NOT worn with tears or stains? Are they super outdated or still on trend? If you find a couple of articles that still fit, do you want to design the wardrobe around those pieces(colors)? If not get rid of it all and go get everything new. If yes, what colors do you have? Write it down. How many shirts and how many pants? write it down. Click here for a list of boys essentials and here for girls essentials.

2. You really only need one outfit per day. Warm-weather set and cold-weather set. Choose a more minimalistic approach for your whole family in the wardrobe department. Good quality and less pieces. Stick with only a few colors that look best on your child, match shoes to jackets/sweaters i.e black shoes mostly black outerwear print. Solid colors aren't always fun, but they go further than a bunch of prints. I would stick with solid color pants. For girls one neutral skirt, one print. I like having prints on top, so mix and match several fun prints for shirts(long-sleeve in winter, short-sleeved in summer). Plus, children spill on the shirts and prints don't show the stains as easy. If you stick to a color plan like this, shopping even at a thrift store can work.

3. Do you coupon or visit any freebie websites? They have A LOT of deals that come up for cheap, new kids clothes and shoes. moneysavingmom.com, krazycouponlady.com, www.freestufftimes.com

 4. I bought all three of my children wardrobes for the fall/winter from The Children's Place. It's kind of trendy, the prices are ok, but even more, the sales can be awesome. Starting 10-15-10 fall items will be up to 75% off, plus here is a 20% off coupon! I would go into the store to inquire and ask for coupons if you're interested. You can save a huge amount and have a whole new wardrobe for your child around $100. I spent under $300 on my 3 kids. They aren't decked out, but they look nice and cute each day of the week. :)

 5. Sign up for store e-mails from any children stores near you. They will let you in on the sales(and coupons) and remember if what you need isn't on sale, it will be! You don't have to go through a WHOLE season until it's 75% off, you can find a lot of great sales at 30-50% off and it will still be a great deal(esp. if you also have a coupon). Old Navy has a lot of great deals. There are always consignment and thrift stores too. I love them and don't at the same time. You can find a lot of fun, unique items for a discounted price, BUT sometimes the prices are around the same as sales prices at Old Navy or other equivalent stores. And it can be quite hard to match everything successfully.  I'd say check your options, not all online prices reflect store prices, but sometimes if you print it out and show the store they are willing to give it to you at that price.

It takes a little bit of brain work, but with proper evaluation and planning, you can do it for cheap! Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Example Plan for my oldest for Fall/Winter:

Winter Coat- Black and Dark Gray(from last year)
Raincoat-Navy blue(from last year)
Sweatshirt- nice, trendy multi color with dark gray background(new)

Sweatshirt(pullover)- brown (for playing)(consignment store)

7-long-sleeved shirts- one nice plaid and buttoned(black, red, gray colors), several t-shirts with graphics on front in blue, red, gray, brown. (new)
7 Pants- nice dark gray cords, 3 jeans(blue denim, black denim), 2 cargo style(black and dark gray), sweatpants(athletic style) (new)
Shoes-Black skate shoes(new), brown shoes(consignment), Yellow Rainboots(hand me down), and Winter Ugg boots (hand me down from his Aunt)

New socks from The Children's Place ($1 each sale, bought 5---mostly black to go with his shoes) and new underwear from Ross(cheap there).

Do you dress your STYLE?

What style do you dress in?
What style best brings out your personality?
Do you express yourself by what you wear?

It makes a big difference. If you don't know your style. Check out some of the ones listed below. I will try and go more in depth with this in the future. :) Have fun, and leave a comment letting me know which you are. Also, if you haven't entered my giveaway for an Old Navy giftcard, enter here.

1. The Fashionista-

She likes what she likes. She knows how to grab several different items off store racks and put together a totally stylish outfit. She's daring to try new styles and feels confident and comfortable in whatever Fashion throws at her. She will wear bright red lipstick, Leopard Print High Heels, Bright Neon Geometric print cocktail dress, or even some chunky military boots with satin rolled up Capri-pants.

2. Classy Lady-

She is always Classy. Elegant, but safe. Secure of her presence in a crisp white blouse and black knee length skirt with black high heels and maybe a strand of pearls around her neck. She isn't boring, but intriguing. She's the "Woman". The high-class, beauty and brains chick. She's got style!

 3. Earthy Chic-
Always chill. She's the one who rides with the hippies, dances with the gypsies, loves the cultural, down to earth, home-girl feel. Her colors are usually earth tones. She may wear a prairie skirt or khaki pants and have wooden or seashell accessories. Think of the beautiful sun-kissed tan skinned and naturally blond highlighted, wind-blown, salty long wavy hair, in a flowy white dress, with sand on her feet, and straw hat on her head.
She knows how to dazzle like a diamond in the rough.

4.  Wild Child-

She is eclectic. She is the one wearing crazy hats, Knee-high laced up boots, with wild printed knee length dresses. She likes to walk on the edge of her social status and is comfortable doing so. Maybe sports a tattoo or piercings. She's most likely wearing contemporary type designs. She can pull any of the other 3 categories into one wild outfit. She's a bit "strange", but totally adorable. Everyone knows her and envies her freedom with dressing fun.

Here's a practical picture of who may wear this style. She has matched 3 different prints, with bright pants, and totally different colors AND for her, it works.

5. Romantica

She loves ruffles, jewels, and anything floral really. She is the ultimate girly-girl. She impresses with her beautiful femininity. She's lovely in her pinks and pearls. She's the ideal Princess-type gal.

6. All-Star (sporty)

She's a tom-boy. Loves to be outdoors mostly, and sports the style of rugged jeans and cargo pants. She may be found at the store in an athletic get-up. Though I don't recommend this as a style, many women fall into this category, especially if their husband and children are constantly hopping from one sporting event to the other. There are also the less original team sports type, but rather the xtreme or solo sporty type of woman. (i.e. the surfer, skater, converse shoe punk in  a sporty way look).

The mix-match-IDK what I'm doing here-

She usually wears jeans and a t-shirt. Maybe just sweats. For a nice dress up, she may put on a skirt and t-shirt with her tennis shoes and socks showing...:) Jewelry is minimal to a wedding ring and accessories are near to none, besides maybe a 20-year purse, which has worn holes at the bottom and dropping all her change. She needs HELP and to FIND her STYLE!!!

Can you believe I can't find ANY photos online for this genre. I've been searching for HOURS...so what I'm going to have to do is look through some of MY pictures and show you how hideous I can look when I don't try and look cute. :) oh no!

Ok, I couldn't find any of myself, either. This picture was taken by my 5 yr old. I was in the process of changing. So, my pants were quickly turning to black dressy slacks. This is an example of someone dressing into 2 conflicting styles in a bad way- dressy casual shirt with sweatpants. It's stylish right now to have conflicting patterns, that work, like the last picture in the Wild Child category. :)

So which style do you have or would like to have?

Looking Good on a Budget

How Much Money????????

I want to do a series of posts concerning "Looking Good on a Budget". First things first, take my polls at the bottom of the home page. I need to know what you guys think when it comes to how much money is a good amount to spend on you, your spouse, and your children. I have researched many "essentials" lists and am now incorporating the best list to give you a bang for your buck according to your body needs and age. :) This is so fun...Can you help by leaving comments on how much you spend normally or how much you'd LIKE to spend to fit better into your budget? That would be lovely!!!!!!!!!
